With many festivals now postponed until 2021, it’s time to rethink one of our favourite summertime celebrations. Here are five ideas for recreating the perfect garden festival.

We paired up with Garden Trading to bring you fabulous outdoor décor ideas that are as tasteful as they are fun.

Sparkling lights for colourful sights

Bringing real festival flair to your set up means adding depth to your surroundings. Mixing up your use of lighting will add dimension to even the smallest green spaces. Wind lightbulbs around tree branches and string fairy lights along walls and fences. Place globes in flower beds and tall pole lamps behind chairs to set a magically-lit boundary around your activities.

Perfecting the festival feeling

Carve out a little relaxed corner for the main event. Fire pits and chimeneas will keep everyone warm when the sun goes down, whilst adding a sense of occasion. Pile up blankets and cushions for softness and comfort. Maybe add the odd candle lantern as the sun goes down to keep the atmosphere burning.

Take a seat

Embrace the easy-going style of festivals by mixing seating. From deckchairs and camping chairs to bean bags and hammocks, it’s easy to create a relaxed amphitheatre that is comfortable and welcoming. Play some low music in the background to perfect the feeling.

Create your own concession stand

No party is complete without treats. Create a snack and cocktail station by placing a service tray atop a simple metal side table. Bowls of sliced fruit, pitchers of fresh juices and straws of all shapes and sizes bring colour to your set up. Fill a steel bowl or empty plant pot with ice and plug with cans of beer and soft drinks. Serve hot chocolate in enamel mugs as the sun goes down and use prongs to toast marshmallows on those fire pits we mentioned earlier.

Your festival line-up

A festival without a stage doesn’t mean a festival without performances. Try recreating tents by tying large sheets between trees and then attach to fences for a makeshift screen. Create a solid surface with wooden boxes and hook up a projector to stream you favourite movie, gig or play. And don’t forget about blankets and cushions for maximum comfort.
