Looking for a little motivation this Monday? Meet yet another inspirational lady – Fiona Edwards. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, Fiona decided to start selling homemade tablet  (Scottish sweet treat) in an effort to raise vital funds for research.

Since she started baking in 2003, Fiona has raised an incredible £88,000 so far! She hopes to add another £4,000 before the end of the year.

Fiona estimates that she has baked over 10,000 trays of tablet from her home in Dundee. If you stacked all of the tablet bars on top of each other the tablet tower would be  higher than the Eiffel Tower!

All the money raised by Fiona goes towards funding vital research in her local area, including 3D mammograms. 3D mammograms are believed to detect early breast cancers in women. The newer technology also reduces the incidences of false positives which can cause unnecessary alarm and worry.

Fiona told the Platinum team,” Having had breast cancer in 2001 I do what I do to try and help make a difference in the research to help others.

“My fundraising contribution enables the startup of pilot studies. If the studies are successful they can then go to a higher authority to get full funding.”

All the funds she has raised selling her delicious sweet treats in her local area go towards vital research at Dundee University.

Andrew Evans, Professor of Breast Imaging in the School of Medicine and Honorary Consultant Radiologist with NHS Tayside, said, “ Fiona’s fundraising is  vital to our breast cancer research. We thank her for yet another year of hard work on our behalf. We simply could not do the work we do without the money Fiona raises for us.”
